Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie was an English author whose 66 detective novels and 14 short-story collections—centered on her detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple—have made her the best-selling fiction novelist of all time, with worldwide sales estimated by Guinness World Records at more than two billion copies. Her play The Mousetrap, which opened in London's West End in 1952, holds the record for the longest continuous run of any play in history. She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1971.
