Adam Silver is an American lawyer and sports executive who has served as the fifth commissioner of the National Basketball Association since 2014. Within his first months in the role he handled the Donald Sterling racism scandal by imposing a lifetime ban on the Los Angeles Clippers owner and forcing the sale of the team, drawing widespread praise for the decisiveness of the response. Under his leadership the league has expanded its global presence, signed record-breaking media-rights deals, and introduced the in-season tournament now known as the NBA Cup.
