Alan Alexander Milne was an English writer best known as the creator of Winnie-the-Pooh, the children's book character introduced in the 1926 collection of the same name and based on his son Christopher Robin's stuffed bear. The two books of Pooh stories, along with the 1924 children's poetry collection When We Were Very Young and 1927's Now We Are Six, have been translated into more than 50 languages. Before Pooh's success eclipsed everything else, he was a successful playwright on the London stage and a contributor to the satirical magazine Punch.
